NIGEL SHORE is one of today's most sought-after oboists internationally. After studying at the Royal Academy of Music (with Celia Nicklin, oboe and Hamish Milne, piano) and the University of London, he graduated with three 1st class honours diplomas in oboe, piano and musicology and was also awarded the coveted "Queen's Commendation of Excellence" as best student of the year. He then moved to Berlin and spent two formative years studying with Hansjörg Schellenberger and four further years playing with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under Herbert von Karajan und Claudio Abbado before becoming principal oboe at the Berlin Comic Opera. For 20 years, Nigel has also been principal oboe of the Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach Chamber Orchestra, specialising in late Baroque and early Classical repertoire. During this time, he built his international solo career and concert engagements have taken him regularly to Japan, the Middle East, North, South and Central America, Russia and throughout Europe, from the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam to the Philharmonie in Berlin and the Gasteig in Munich, for concerts with many acclaimed artists such as Hartmut Haenchen, Jochen Kowalski, Paco de Lucia, Helmuth Rilling, Peter Schreier, Saulius Sondeckis, and Frank-Peter Zimmermann.
SOLO CAREER Some highlights of his varied solo career include: - the world premiere of the Oboe Concerto written for him by Roger Steptoe; - Bach's Concerto in A major for Oboe d'amore BWV 1055 in the composer's church in Koethen under the direction of Peter Schreier; - the concerto by Richard Strauss in St. Martin-in-the-Fields, London for the opening concert of the Covent Garden Festival; - a performance of the Doppio Concerto by Hans Werner Henze in the Montepulciano Festival in the presence of the composer; - gala concerts in the Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg, with concertos by Bach, Mozart and Strauss, which were broadcast on Russian television. Nigel Shore is also a regular soloist in the Konzerthaus Berlin, where he has played concertos by Bach,Telemann, Handel, Henze and Lutosławski.
CHAMBER MUSIC Nigel Shore has always been a very active chamber musician. He is a founding member of the Berlin Oboe Quartet, which has commissioned many important new works for oboe and string trio and recorded for the BBC and SFB; of Ensemble Aureus which undertook concert and educational work worldwide for the Goethe-Institute; of KO5, the Wind Quintet of the Comic Opera Berlin, which continues the lively tradition of wind chamber music established at the Comic Opera in a regular series of Berlin concerts; and of Trianche, a Berlin-Los Angeles based wind trio. Nigel Shore has performed with the Berlin Philharmonic Soloists and the Scharoun Ensemble in Berlin, Istanbul, Budapest and at the Salzburg Festival and toured Australia with pianist Philip Mayers. He is a regular guest of the renowned Spectrum Concerts series in Berlin and has also been a guest of the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet, touring to Brazil and the United States as well as participating on the CD recording "Summer Music" (BIS). For many years, Nigel Shore has been a guest soloist and chamber musician of the Costa Rica International Music Festival and in 2008 and 2010, was invited by Alex Klein to participate in the "Oferenda Musical" Chamber Music Festival in São Paulo.
ORCHESTRAL WORK As an orchestral oboist, Nigel Shore has been a guest of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields (Sir Neville Marriner), the English Chamber Orchestra, the Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach Chamber Orchestra (Hartmut Haenchen), the Deutsche Oper Berlin (Christian Thielemann), the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin (Daniel Barenboim), the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra (Rafael FrŸhbeck de Burgos), the Berlin Symphony Orchestra (Lothar Zagroszek) and the Orquesta de Cadaqués (Edmon Colomer). From 2008 to 2011 Nigel Shore was guest principal oboist with the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra in Rio de Janeiro under Roberto Minczuk.

EDUCATIONAL WORK Nigel Shore has always given special emphasis to teaching projects.After graduating from the Royal Academy of London, he was appointed there as resident reed- making professor. He has given courses for the Goethe Institute throughout South America,Turkey and the Middle East, and gives regular oboe courses and workshops on Bach and Mozart style in Poland and Russia. His special year-long relationship with the Stuttgart International Bach Academy under Helmuth Rilling has taken him as an oboist and a coach to Buenos Aires ("St. Matthew Passion" / Teatro Colón), Eugene, Oregon ("Christmas Oratorio" / Oregon Bach Festival), Cracow, Poland ("Messiah" / Filharmonia) and Caracas, Venezuela ("Elijah" / Fesnojiv) as well as to the European Music Festival, Stuttgart as a regular coach and conductor of the Festival Ensemble.
CONDUCTING Through his coaching work as well as his frequent reconstructions and performances of Baroque concertos, Nigel Shore is increasingly in demand as a conductor. He has already gained considerable critical success directing young musicians' concerts at the European Music Festival Stuttgart and as a soloist- conductor of Bach's Oboe Concertos.
